EVANSTON, Ill. -- Prior to continuing its Big Ten slate against the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend, Northwestern will play its first midweek game of the season against the Chicago State Cougars on Wednesday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. The game will be played at UIC's Les Miller Field, located at 901 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Chicago. Admission is free.
CHANGE OF SCENERY
After a cold and wet winter and early spring, the field at Northwestern's Rocky Miller Park is not quite ready for baseball. UIC's Les Miller Field features an entirely artificial playing surface that will allow Wednesday's contest to be played.
SINCE THE YEAR 2000
The Wildcats, with nine wins in their first 15 games, are off to their best start since 2000 under head coach Paul Stevens. NU has won five of its last six ballgames, including two out of three against the Iowa Hawkeyes in the opening series of Big Ten play over the weekend.
SERIES HISTORY
Northwestern leads the all-time series against Chicago State, 27-6. The 'Cats captured both games played between the two teams in 2012 by a combined score of 26-15. Coach Stevens earned his 600th career victory in one of those games, a 14-6 triumph on March 4 in Port Charlotte, Fla.
ON THE AIR
Wednesday's tilt will be broadcast live from Les Miller Field on WNUR's UStream site. Seth Bernstein and Gordon Voit will handle the call, which can be found online at www.wnursports.org.
ON DECK
Following Wednesday's game against the Cougars, Northwestern will travel to Lincoln, Neb. for a three-game showdown against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, March 29-31. The Wildcats lead the all-time series against the Huskers, 6-3, after claiming two of three against the newest Big Ten team in Evanston last season. Friday night's series opener will be shown live on the Big Ten Network at 6:35 p.m.
