Hearn Rakes in All-Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior guard Reggie Hearn (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider) was recognized as an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by the league's media members it was announced Monday.

Hearn took an untraditional path to the honor. He joined the team as a walk-on as a freshman and played a total of 72 minutes during his first two seasons as a Wildcat. However, Hearn started every game as a junior and then became NU's leading scorer this season, posting an average of 13.2 points per game, a mark that currently ranks 15th in the Big Ten.

He has scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season, including tallying 20 for the second straight year in leading Northwestern to a win at Illinois on Jan. 17. Hearn followed up the effort with 22 points against second-ranked Indiana three days later before hitting each of his first nine field goal attempts while scoring 21 of his career-high 26 points in the first half in a victory over Purdue Feb. 2.

He missed two games due to injury this season, but has started all 29 games that he has appeared in to date.

Hearn was also recognized as Northwestern's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The honor is given to individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

Northwestern (13-18, 4-14 Big Ten) is the No. 11 seed for this week's Big Ten tournament which is being held at the United Center in Chicago. The Wildcats face sixth-seeded Iowa in an opening-round contest at approximately 8 p.m.
