EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the second consecutive weekend Northwestern's baseball team has had its nonconference series cancelled because of inclement weather. The three-game set between the Wildcats and Missouri scheduled for March 1-3 has been abandoned because of snow and low temperatures. The games will not be made up.

Last weekend the Wildcats were originally scheduled to travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on the Jayhawks, however winter storm Q forced the cancellation of that series. Instead, Northwestern was able to add four games in Nashville, Tenn., to its schedule at the eleventh hour. The 'Cats responded positively to the late switch and played well enough to win three of four contests on that trip.

Northwestern's second game of the season at the First Pitch Invitational against Furman on Feb 16 was also scrapped by the elements. The game began as scheduled in Greenville, S.C., but a rare snow shower in the Palmetto State abruptly ended the tilt with the Wildcats nursing a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Head coach Paul Stevens and the 'Cats will attempt to return to the diamond next weekend when they head to Springfield, Mo., for a three-game series against Missouri State. The first game is scheduled for Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m.
