'Cats Capture Three Singles Championships at RAFC

EVANSTON, Ill. – All three Northwestern players participating in championship matches on Saturday came away winners. Nida Hamilton, Brooke Rischbieth and Maddie Lipp all won handily in their final matches. Hamilton and Rischbieth also teamed up to win a doubles title. Lipp was partnered with Belinda Niu, and they did the same.
Hamilton played spoiler against Natalia Maynetto from host Alabama, winning her final by a convincing 6-1, 6-2 score. Rischbieth was in a close battle throughout her match but prevailed 6-4, 6-3 over Skylar Holloway of LSU. Bringing home the 'Cats third title was Lipp, who matched up against Margaret Boyette of Furman and won 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, Hamilton and Rischbieth won their semifinal match 8-4 over Natasha Prokhnevska and Muriel Wacker from Georgia Tech. In the finals, the tandem earned a close 8-6 victory against Clemson's Yana Koroleva and Tristen Dewar. Lipp and Niu were challenged in their semifinal match against Boyette and Blair Martin of Furman but captured an 8-6 win to place themselves in the final match. There they played Noel Scott and Abigail Owens from LSU and cruised to an 8-3 championship decision.
Niu won the third-place match of her singles draw, defeating conference foe Amy Zhu of Michigan 7-5, 6-4. Four other Wildcats also won third-place matches, including Alicia Barnett's 7-5, 6-4 decision over Furman's Ansley Speaks and Manon Peri knocking off Katherine Oudin, also of Furman by a 6-4, 6-3 tally. Jillian Rooney won her match by walkover, while Lok Sze Leung captured a 6-3, 6-2 win against Jacqui Katz from Tulane.
NU wraps up the fall season by hosting the Wildcat Fall Duals next weekend, beginning on Friday, Nov. 8.
