NU vs. Indiana/Purdue Match Notes 
EVANSTON, Ill.- Northwestern hits the road again for two Big Ten matchups this weekend, taking on Indiana Friday in Bloomington and then traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., to face Purdue Sunday at 3:30 p.m. CT. Wildcat fans can watch both matches as Friday's contest at Indiana will air on the Big Ten Digital Network while Sunday's match will be shown on the Big Ten Network with Kevin Egan (play-by-play) and Danielle Slaton (color) on the call.
Taking Their Chances
Northwestern's Big Ten record so far this season is a bit deceiving as the Wildcats have been close in each of their first three matches. NU played a competitive match at then-No. 9 Penn State, taking the Nittany Lions to double-overtime before the match was decided. Senior Kate Allen scored her first two goals of the season, giving the Wildcats the 2-0 lead heading into the second half. Two late Penn State goals and another in double-overtime gave the Nittany Lions the victory.
Last weekend, a goal decided each of Northwestern's matches at home. On Friday, despite the Wildcats holding the 24-10 advantage on shots, Nebraska snuck out of Evanston with the 2-1 victory. Sunday's match against Iowa was a physical one with 43 combined fouls, two of which resulted in penalty kicks for the Hawkeyes. NU was whistled for two fouls inside the box, one in each half, as Iowa missed its first PK and converted on the second one late in the second half to take the 1-0 lead, despite NU's 19-11 lead on shots.
If you omit the Penn State match, Northwestern has outshot its opponents 66-26 in three of the last four matches, including a 38-11 clip on shots in the second half. Here's the breakdown on shots for NU and its opponents in three of the last four games (Oakland, Nebraska, Iowa):

Ironwoman
Junior captain Jackie Alyinovich is NU's ironwman as she has played every minute of every match so far this year, logging 1,057 minutes on the NU defense. In fact, Alyinovich has played in all 49 matches since her freshman year, starting 48, logging 4,384 of a possible 5,016 minutes over the last three years (96.4 percent of the possible minutes).
Hand it to Hascher
Freshman Jenna Hascher has emerged as the starting goalkeeper for the Wildcats this season, starting eight of NU's 11 matches and making appearances in 10 total. Prior to the Big Ten season, Hascher had only allowed three goals in seven nonconference matches, for a goals-against average of 0.49 and save percentage of .897. Hascher recorded a shutout in each of the last three nonconference matches (2-0-1) and had a shutout streak of more than 435 minutes which lasted from Sept. 5-Sept. 20. The three-match shutout streak was Northwestern's first streak of that length since 2007.
Heading into this weekend, Hascher ranks third in the Big Ten, with 44 saves in 10 games. Her 4.40 saves per game ranks fourth in the conference. She also is tied for fourth with three shutouts.
Where Kate Ranks
Senior forward Kate Allen has once again emerged as the team's leading scorer this season. She did not score her first goal of the year until the Penn State match (9/20), tallying two vs. the Nittany Lions, and then struck again off a penalty kick vs. Nebraska. Allen's three goals leads Northwestern this year and she also has a team-high three assists to lead the Wildcats with nine points.
Allen has led Northwestern in scoring in each of her four seasons with the squad and will leave her name in the record book once the season is complete. She ranks in the top 10 in a number of offensive categories:

Know the Foe: Indiana
2013 Record: 8-2-1, 1-2-0 Big Ten
Notable: Indiana leads the Big Ten this year with seven shutouts. Goalkeeper Shannon Flower has recorded all seven of those shutouts and ranks sixth in the conference with a 0.80 goals-against average. Lisa Nouanesengsy is one of Indiana's main scoring threats with a team-leading six goals so far this season.

Know the Foe: Purdue
2013 Record: 6-4-1, 1-2-0 Big Ten
Notable: The Boilermakers are 2-2 in their last four, defeating Miami (Ohio), 4-3 in OT to wrap up the nonconference season and recorded a 1-0 decision at Ohio State. Purdue had a rough start to open the Big Ten season, falling 3-1 to Wisconsin and 6-1 at Penn State. Maddy Williams leads the squad with seven goals while Alex Hairston is close behind with six scores.
