Big Ten Conference Release

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Elena Barham (Madison, Wis./West High School) was the recipient of Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Barham is the second NU runner to garner the weekly accolade this season, following Michelle Moriset's honor on Sept. 10.

Running at Wisconsin-Parkside's Dannehl Cross Country Course, Barham cruised to a 5K time of 18:03 to lead the Wildcats and place seventh in a field of nearly 300 runners. Barham's effort, coupled with four other top-20 finishes by the Wildcats, helped Northwestern leave Kenosha with the meet's team title.

This weekend, head coach April Likhite and the Wildcats head to Barham's hometown of Madison, Wis., for the prestigious Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, a 6K event that serves as NU's final preparation for championship season.
