EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern women's tennis saw their weekend at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at Michigan come to an end with no singles player advancing to the semifinals.
Belinda Niu fell to the event's No. 1 seed, Emina Bektas of Michigan 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinal round. Teammate Veronica Corning won the first set but was also ultimately defeated by another Wolverine, No. 3 seed Ronit Yurovsky, 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-1.
Corning and Alicia Barnett entered the doubles championship undefeated in their last 20 matches, including 16 last season. That streak came to end Monday morning with an 8-4 loss to the No. 46 ranked tandem in the ITA poll, Ronit Yurovsky and Sarah Lee of Michigan. Corning and Barnett had not lost since March 10 at Nebraska.
The Wildcats will be back in action at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. from Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3.
