Northwestern Nabs Sixth at Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Northwestern stared down a highly competitive field at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday and didn't blink, placing sixth out of 18 teams in the meet's Blue Division at UND's Burke Golf Course.
Four teams ranked in the top 25 nationally -- No. 2 Florida State, No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 19 New Mexico and No. 25 North Carolina State -- claimed the first four spots in the standings, followed by Illinois and then the Wildcats. With 194 points, NU fought its way past North Carolina (197), Princeton (209), SMU (236) and Arizona State (244) to round out the top 10.
All five Northwestern scorers took advantage of ideal conditions to post their best 5K times of the young season. Northwestern's leading finisher once again was senior Audrey Huth, who completed the 5K course in 16:54 -- nearly 30 seconds ahead of her time at the event a year ago. Huth took 10th place overall and was the second Big Ten runner to cross the finish line Friday.
Junior Michelle Moriset was second for NU with her time of 17:20, good for 35th place, while senior Sophie Ewald was just a step behind Moriset in 17:21.
Northwestern's scoring was completed by junior Lexie Goldsmith with her performance of 17:24 and Libby Kocha's effort of 17:41.

On Saturday, Northwestern will send a contingent of runners into Chicago to compete at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational. Start time for the women's 5K event at Montrose Harbor is set for 11:45 a.m.
