Wildcats Ready for 2012 Italian Tour

EVANSTON, Ill. --Northwestern's season began a little early this year, with the Wildcats reporting last Sunday, Aug. 19, to prepare for their 2012 Italian Tour, which spans from Aug. 27 until Sept. 5. Over the course of the journey, the Wildcats will spend significant time in three cities--Rome, Florence and Stresa--while playing four games against professional Italian teams. It is the first foreign trip for NU under head coach Joe McKeown.
In preparation for the experience, McKeown lined up an impressive series of speakers to talk to the 'Cats about everything from weathering adversity to appreciating the opportunities they have as Northwestern student-athletes. Visitors to NU's locker room included Danielle Green, a former Notre Dame women's basketball standout who was injured in Iraq while in the Armed Forces, Northwestern University President Morty Schapiro, ESPN's Mike Wilbon and Lisa Jones and Emily Fletcher, both NU athletic department employees and breast cancer survivors.
"Because of the down time, we thought it was a great opportunity to get some different perspectives, so we invited a number of people to come by from all different walks of life," McKeown said.
