'Cats Begin Busy April at Bryan National Collegiate

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern has a busy month of April on the horizon and it begins this weekend at the Bryan National Collegiate. NU joins the 17-team field at the Bryan Park Golf and Enrichment Center in Greensboro, N.C. The 'Cats will tee off at 7:20 a.m. CT Friday on the par-72, 6,323-yard Players Course with competition continuing Saturday and Sunday.
This year's field includes eight teams ranked in the top-30 in the latest Golfstat women's rankings, along with Big Ten foes Ohio State (19) and Michigan State (24). The competition will serve as a good test for the 'Cats as they prepare for their final regular season event featuring a number of conference squads at the OSU-hosted Lady Buckeye Invitational (April 21-22) and the Big Ten Championships (April 27-29).
Northwestern has used a consistent lineup all season featuring senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill/Hinsdale Central), junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows), sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and freshmen Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) and Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway). All five will compete for NU this weekend.
Weaver is coming off a successful showing at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., where the junior tied for first place. She was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week after posting a 7-under 209, one stroke off her program record of 208 set at the 2011 Lady Northern. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native shot an NU season-low score of 3-under 69 in the first and third rounds and also finished under par at 1-under 71 in the second. Weaver continues to lead the 'Cats in scoring average this season at 75.41.
Lederhausen currently has the same scoring average as her junior season at 75.86, which ranks second on the team behind Weaver. She shot a personal season-low 1-under 71 during the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate. Lederhausen is playing in her 43rd tournament as the senior has competed in all but one event (missed one tournament her freshman year) during her four-year NU career.
This weekend will mark NU's third appearance at the Bryan National Collegiate as the team also fielded a squad in 2010 and 2011. Last year, Northwestern finished 13th out of 17 teams with Wake Forest winning the tournament.
