EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern wraps up the 2011-12 regular season this weekend at the 32nd Annual Lady Buckeye Invitational, played on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio. The two-day event begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. CT with the first 36 holes, while the final 18 take place Sunday also at 7:30 a.m.
The final regular season event will serve as a great test for the 'Cats as they prepare for the 2012 Big Ten Championships, April 27-29. This weekend, the 11-team Lady Buckeye field includes eight conference squads—Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State.
This weekend's tournament will use the 6-count-4 format, meaning NU will travel an additional player. Head coach Emily Fletcher has used a consistent lineup of senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows), sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and freshmen, Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) and Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) all season.
Lederhausen will be playing in her final regular season tournament at the Lady Buckeye. The senior heads into the weekend with 130 career rounds under her belt spanned over 44 events. She currently stands at fourth in NU history with a career stroke average of 76.89.
Northwestern played against just two other Big Ten teams at its last event, the Bryan National Collegiate from April 6-8, but placed ahead of Michigan State for the first time this season. Mai and Brown both tied for 25th, leading the 'Cats to an eighth-place finish in the 17-team field.
Last year, NU took fifth at the Lady Buckeye, fueled by a seventh-place finish from Weaver. She finished with six birdies in the tournament, tops among the 'Cats, as she scored her sixth top-10 finish of the 2010-11 season. Lederhausen was one stroke behind Weaver, tying for eighth.
