Chicago Tribune: NU's Welch knows he's one of the best
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Official brackets and seeds for the 2012 Big Ten Wrestling Championships were released Friday afternoon. NU has six seeded wrestlers in this year's edition of the tournament, which begins Saturday at 9 a.m. CT inside Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.
Only one change was made to this year's pre-seeds and it involved NU wrestler Pierce Harger at 165 lbs. Harger moved from an unseeded wrestler to the No. 8 seed, replacing Ohio State's Derek Garcia who had the No. 8 pre-seed. Harger received a first-round bye and will meet the winner of the Garcia/David Taylor (Penn State) match in the second round. Taylor has the No. 1 seed at 165 lbs.
Jason Welch (No. 1, 157), Levi Mele (No. 5, 125), Mike McMullan (No. 5, heavyweight) Kaleb Friedley (No. 8, 149) and Lee Munster (No. 9, 174) all maintained their same seeds.
