Wildcats Strong in Opening Spring Meet

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Northwestern completed its first spring track meet of the season on Saturday, with three Wildcats running in both the 5K and 3K events at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational.

On Friday, junior Ashley Greenwell led the Wildcats in the 5K with her time of 17:41.9, good for 24th in field. Joining her with sub-18-minute performances were classmates Moira Ryan in 17:54.4 and Lauren Neuschel in 17:55.

Northwestern also fared well in the 3K event on Saturday, where sophomore Lexie Goldsmith ran to an 11th-place finish with a time of 10:03.4. Junior Janelle Li-A-Ping was 16th in 10:07.5 while sophomore Ann Powers clocked in at 10:16.8.

The event gave NU the opportunity to run against top track teams from the Big Ten, including Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa and Michigan State. The Wildcats will be running in at least a dozen meets during the spring track season.
