NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman Olivia Duehr (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) of the softball team and junior Zach Morton (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) of the baseball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Duehr earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after hitting .417 and slugging .917 during the Cathedral City Classic, twice driving in four runs in a single game. Against the Rams, Duehr finished 3-for-4 with a home run and a steal while she brought NU back into the game against the ranked Ducks with a grand slam. She reached base in every game Northwestern played on the weekend, adding a pair of steals.
During Northwestern's three-game series at Cal State Northridge, Morton hurled six solid innings in the opener, compiling six strikeouts along the way, before moving to the DH role in NU's next two games. Morton collected five hits and scored two runs over two games, improving his team-leading season batting average to .429.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is senior Maria Tedeschi (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) of the women's lacrosse team. Tedeschi and several other NU student-athletes attended Middlefork Family Service Night on Thursday, Feb. 23. During Service Night, participants made meal placements, animal blankets and chew toys, as well as lunches for a homeless shelter. The group also cleaned sports equipment and organized the clothing and non-perishable food donations.
