EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern volunteer assistant coach Brandon Precin is competing overseas this weekend at the Vladimir Semenov International tournament in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. The three-time NU All-American is one of five U.S. wrestlers participating in the freestyle competition that runs from Feb. 17-19.
Precin already qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the men's freestyle 55 kg/121 lbs. division. This weekend, he will compete against some of the top international competition to prepare himself for the trials and beyond.
The former NU 125 lbs. starter has had a successful season on the freestyle circuit, qualifying for the trials with his second place finish at the Olympic Trials Qualifier in Las Vegas, Nev., on Dec. 5. Precin recently placed second at the Dave Schultz Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colo., and finished fifth at his first international competition, also in Russia, at the Dmitri Korkin Memorial in October 2011.
