EVANSTON, Ill. -- Drew Crawford had 13 points and nine rebounds and Alex Olah added 12 points and nine boards as the Northwestern men's basketball team defeated University of Chicago 70-46 Wednesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena in an exhibition contest.
NU limited the Maroons to 29 percent shooting from the field in the contest as the 'Cats tuned up for next Tuesday's regular-season opener against Texas Southern.
The lead was 37-18 at the break as Crawford had seven points and seven rebounds and Tre Demps came off the bench to score a team-high eight points over the opening 20 minutes of play. NU held Chicago to 7-for-31 shooting in the first half.
The Maroons hit a pair of early 3-pointers to get back within 14 in the opening minutes of the second stanza. However, two baskets by Crawford and one apiece by Olah and Jared Swopshire pushed the lead back up to 22 with just over 15 minutes left and the 'Cats cruised the rest of the way.
Demps hit all three of his 3-point attempts in the contest and finished with 11 points. Eleven different Wildcats played at least 10 minutes in the contest as the contest gave head coach Bill Carmody an opportunity to see everyone in action.
Northwestern shot 41.7 percent from the field (25-60), including connecting on eight 3-pointers. Charlie Hughes and Sam Gage led the Maroons with 10 points apiece.
