EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wildcats redshirt freshman Lee Munster (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) of the wrestling team and freshman Karly Roser (Hamilton, Ont./St. Mary's) of the women's basketball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Munster went 5-0 to win the 174-pound title at the 49th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Wrestling Championships. As the No. 5 seed, Munster was the lowest-seeded wrestler to win a title at this year's event, hosted annually by Northwestern. Munster had two major decisions and upset No. 2 seed, Ethen Lofthouse of Iowa, 7-3 in the finals. Munster's two major decisions and five wins helped the Wildcats take second at the tournament, their highest finish in the 49-year history of Midlands. Munster is now 14-3 on the season, ranked No. 8 nationally and is on an eight-match winning streak heading into NU's opening weekend of Big Ten dual competition.

Roser shot 50 percent from the field in NU's two games this past week, recording a career-best 14 points at Iowa in the 'Cats' Big Ten opener at Iowa. Roser averaged 3.5 assists and averaged three rebounds on the week and currently ranks 12th nationally with 6.0 assists per contest.

This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is senior John Frutiger (Alma, Mich./Alma) of the men's swimming team. Frutiger organized an "Hour of Power" event on New Year's Eve Day to raise funds for the National Blood Clot Alliance in memory of both his sister and a former swimmer Carleton College. The "Hour of Power" was a continuous relay race in which teams of 10 student-athletes swam as many lengths in the pool as possible. By day's end, the teams had surpassed their goal of raising $3,000.
