NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomore Belinda Niu (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) of the women's tennis team and senior Davide Curletti (Farmington Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) of the men's basketball team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Niu completed a perfect weekend of play at Northwestern's Wildcat Invitational, posting a 4-0 mark in doubles with three wins in three tries on the singles side. All three of her singles victories -- against opponents from DePaul, UIC and LSU -- came in straight sets, with Niu never dropping more than two games in a set.
Curletti scored 13 of his season-high 17 points in the first half of Northwestern's upset of No. 6 Michigan State Saturday, also tying a career high with six rebounds to go along with four assists, a blocked shot and a steal. The performance came in just the second start of Curletti's four-year career. Earlier in the week, Curletti added four points and four boards in 11 minutes of action in an overtime loss at No. 13 Michigan.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the week is sophomore Stephanie Holthus (Burlington, Ill./Central) of the volleyball team. Holthus visited Orrington Elementary School last week to assist with gym class activities, participating in a weekly practice by NU student-athletes.
