EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern continues nonconference action, hosting Missouri State at 7 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Field.
Last Time Out
Northwestern played its first true road game of the 2011 season Wednesday, visiting DePaul at Wish Field in Chicago. The Wildcats had the 22-10 advantage on shots but the Blue Demons scored twice in each half for the 4-0 victory. Sophomore forward Reed Losee (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) had a game-high five shots, including two shots on goal. NU had a total of seven shots on goal as sophomore midfielder Lepe Seetane (Lesotho, Africa/Trinity) and senior forward Oliver Kupe (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) also had two while freshman midfielder/defender Nikko Boxall (Auckland, New Zealand/Mt. Albert) had one.
Scouting Missouri State
Missouri State is 2-4-2 overall. After opening the season 0-4, the Bears have gone 2-0-2 in their last four games. Four players lead the team with two goals each, including Jordan Hoffman who has a team-leading five points on the season.
Series History
This is the third meeting between Northwestern and Missouri State with the Wildcats leading 2-0 all-time. These two teams met in Evanston last year and Oliver Kupe scored a second-half goal to give NU the 1-0 shutout victory at Lakeside Field.
Out of Conference
After opening the Big Ten Conference season against Michigan State on Sept. 24, Northwestern is now in the midst of three-straight nonconference games and five of the seven games since MSU came to town are against nonconference opponents. Northwestern's next Big Ten game is at Ohio State at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9.
Tombridge Returns
Sophomore goalkeeper Tommy Tombridge (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) played 15:52 against DePaul on Wednesday. It was his first game in goal since NU's season opener against Eastern Illinois and second game of the season. Tombridge relieved freshman goalkeeper Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J./Bishop Eustace) in the second half and recorded two saves while allowing one goal.
In This Corner...
Northwestern ranks second in the Big Ten, averaging 6.56 corner kicks per game. Through nine matches, NU has 59 corner kicks, two away from Penn State who leads the league with 61. In the last two games, Northwestern has the 26-2 advantage in corner kicks.
