EVANSTON, Ill. -- Members of Northwestern's 13-time defending Big Ten Tournament champion women's tennis team will hit the courts for the first time this fall at this weekend's Wildcat Invitational. The event this year draws competitors from 10 different schools from around the country.

NU head coach Claire Pollard will enter three individuals into the field. Junior Linda Abu Mushrefova (Bradenton, Fla,/Pendleton) will play in singles flight 'A.' Sophomore Nida Hamilton (Oak Brook, Ill./Hinsdale Central) will participate in singles flight 'B', while classmate Natalie Edell (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) is slated to compete in singles flight 'C'. Mushrefova and Hamilton will also team up to doubles in flight 'A' of that draw.

The Wildcat Invitational is slated to begin Friday, Sept. 30 at approximately 9 a.m. and runs through Sunday afternoon. Due to construction on the Vandy Christie Tennis Center on Northwestern's campus, the tournament will be held at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center in nearby Winnetka, Ill. In the event of inclement weather the Wildcat Invitational will be moved to the Combe Indoor Tennis Center, which is housed in the Sports Pavilion and Aquatics Center on NU's campus.

Tentatively, competitors at the Wildcat Invitational will partake in two rounds of doubles play Friday and one round of singles beginning at 9.a.m. When play resumes on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. there will be a pair of singles rounds and one doubles round. The tournament concludes Sunday morning with a final round of singles play.

Other schools that will participate in the Wildcat Invitational include: Illinois, Western Michigan, UIC, DePaul, Oklahoma, Michigan State, South Carolina, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
