NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) of the women's golf team and junior Kyle Schickel (Louisville, Ky./Saint Xavier) of the men's soccer team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Lederhausen earned Big Ten's Golfer of the Week honors after tying for fourth place individually at the 32nd Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational last week in Albuquerque, N.M. She fired a 54-hole even-par 219 on the par-73 UNM Championship Course, capped off by a final-round 1-under 72 -- with five birdies on her scorecard -- to vault from 12th to fourth in the individual standings. Her effort helped NU place fourth out of 18 competing teams.
Schickel notched a game-tying goal for Northwestern in the final three minutes of regulation against Big Ten foe Michigan State, helping NU salvage a point in its conference opener. Schickel's first goal of the year was a timely one, as the junior finished a cross by Scott Lakin at the 87-minute mark.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is senior Meghan Cavanaugh (Anchorage, Alaska/East Anchorage) of the women's swimming team. Cavanaugh recently assumed the role of being the inaugural Community Relations representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), acting as the liaison between student-athletes and the athletic department. Already this academic year, Meghan has created a program within SAAC to make planning events throughout the year more effective and allow even more student-athletes to be involved.
