EVANSTON, Ill.-- As the fall tournament circuit continues, Northwestern men's tennis head coach Arvid Swan and his squad will head south this weekend to Waco, Texas where they will do battle at the 11th annual Baylor-HEB Invitational. The tournament features a 64-player singles draw and a 32-team doubles bracket.

The Wildcats are coming off a strong showing in their first event of the season at last weekend's Milwaukee Tennis Classic, hosted by Marquette. As a team, Northwestern posted six singles triumphs and a pair of doubles victories over the course of the three-day competition. Several newcomers including the freshmen trio of Alexandru Pasareanu (Bluffton, S.C./Heritage Academy), Alberto Zanotti (Valencia, Venezuela/C.I. Carabobo) and Nikhil Jayashankar (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) all tallied impressive wins in Milwaukee.

Pasareanu recorded two singles wins over the weekend; Zanotti won a singles match and teamed with Chris Jackman (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep) for a victory in doubles play; Jayashankar also won a singles match in his collegiate debut and won in doubles while teaming up with senior Eric Spector (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North).

The expected field at the Baylor-HEB Invitational is incredibly deep and talented. 16 schools are scheduled to compete over the weekend including: Arizona, Fresno State, UL-Lafayette, Laredo CC, Maryland, Midwestern State, New Mexico State, Oklahoma, Portland, Rice, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio, UT-Pan American, Big Ten rival Iowa, the host Baylor Bears and the Wildcats.

Seven ranked players are scheduled to compete, including Northwestern senior Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet), who at No. 76 according to the Campbell's/ITA fall singles poll, is the fifth highest-rated player in the pool. The Milwaukee native is a two-year starter at No. 1 singles and doubles for the 'Cats. Graves has 50 career singles victories and was tabbed as a second team All-Big Ten honoree last spring.
