EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) has been named a Capital One third-team Academic All-American, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lindenschmidt becomes the women's golf program's first CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Lindenschmidt savored another solid season for head coach Emily Fletcher's Wildcats, competing in nine events for Northwestern with a 78.79 scoring average. She shot a personal-best-tying even-par 72 on a pair of occasions, and placed a season-best 19th at the 2011 Central District Invitational. Her play helped lead the Wildcats to their second straight NCAA regional appearance.
Lindenschmidt, who is graduating next week with a degree in chemical engineering, is also a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar recipient and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2009 and 2010. Student-athletes must post an annual GPA of 3.7 or better to make that coveted list.
The Academic All-America at-large program encompasses all sports not covered by their own dedicated awards process. Each school is allowed to nominate up to three male and three female student-athletes for the at-large award; student-athletes must be starters or important reserves, have a minimum 3.30 GPA and be sophomores athletically and academically to be eligible.
