Eric Howitt Named Assistant AD for Equipment Operations

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips has announced the hire of Eric Howitt as the assistant athletic director for equipment operations. Howitt was most recently the director of equipment services, branding and licensing at San Jose State University.
He replaces Bill Jarvis who recently retired after 35 years at Northwestern.
Howitt's responsibilities include overseeing the equipment staff and operations that manage NU's 19 varsity athletic programs while directly working with the football program.
In his three years at San Jose State, Howitt oversaw the procurement of athletic equipment for the school's 17 athletic programs, while expanding the university's brand recognition through retail merchandise sales.
Prior to his time at San Jose State, Howitt spent five years as the assistant director of equipment operations at the University of California-Berkeley where he worked as the budget manager for the men's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, men's water polo and men's crew programs.
Howitt is a 1999 graduate of Oregon State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in forest recreation resources. After spending two years at his alma mater, he went on to hold related positions at Florida Atlantic University, University of Cincinnati and University of California-Los Angeles
A member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association, he earned his equipment manager's certification (E.M.,C.) in 2001. He was published in the Equipment Managers' Journal.
Eric and his wife, Karen, have two children, Aaron and Ashley. They reside in Evanston.
