EVANSTON, Ill. -- Fresh off a scintillating Sunday charge at the Big Ten Championships, Northwestern senior David Lipsky (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) has been named an All-Big Ten first team selection by a vote of the conference coaches, the Big Ten announced today.
Lipsky earned the third All-Big Ten honor of his career after leading Northwestern with a 71.97 stroke average during the regular season -- currently good for seventh all-time at NU. He earned six top-20 finishes on the year including a trio of top-10 performances. In October, he was the co-medalist at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate with a 68-68-66 tournament and a final round charge for the ages. Lipsky played his final four holes at the Bridgestone in five under par, finishing birdie-birdie-birdie-eagle and holing a final 30-foot putt on No. 18 to tie for his third-career tournament win with a career-best final-round 6-under 66 and a school-record-tying 14-under 202.
At the Big Ten Championships this year, Lipsky began the final round six strokes out of the lead. He quickly mounted a charge, coming within one stroke of the lead when he got to 5-under through 10 holes, eventually ending up third. His final-round 67 helped NU finish second overall in the tournament, its best finish since winning the team title in 2006.
Lipsky was a second-team All-Big Ten honoree as a sophomore in 2008-09 before earning first-team honors as a junior last year. He is the first three-time All-Conference choice for NU since Tom Johnson (2001, 2003-04). Lipsky is the sixth Wildcat in program history to win three All-Big Ten nods.
Junior Eric Chun (Ansung City, South Korea/International Christian School) earned Northwestern's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honor.
