EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior Paul Snieder (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) has been selected as the Big Ten Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday. It is the first such honor of his career.
Snieder guided Northwestern to a perfect 4-0 week, hitting safely in all four games including notching three multi-hit contests. He hit .588 on the week with a .812 slugging percentage.
After helping the Wildcats to nonconference wins over UIC and Chicago, Snieder went 6-for-8 with three runs scored and five RBI in a pair of victories over Michigan. In Friday's 7-1 win, his seventh-inning grand slam capped a 3-for-4 day and sealed the victory.
Snieder posted another 3-for-4 effort at the plate in NU's 11-6 victory the following day, scoring twice and ripping an RBI double. He also worked the final 3 2/3 innings of the game on the mound without allowing an earned run to pick up his team-leading fifth save of the season.
In conference play, Snieder ranks second in the Big Ten with a .516 on-base percentage, third with a .413 batting average and fourth with a .640 slugging percentage. In all games played, he is second in the league with a .456 on-base percentage, third with a .370 batting average and fifth with a .558 slugging percentage.
Northwestern (19-27, 9-11 Big Ten) returns to action Thursday as it opens a three-game series at Michigan State to conclude the regular season.
