EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach April Likhite and her staff will host the 2011 Northwestern Cross Country Camp, June 27-30, on the NU campus in Evanston. The camp is open to runners of all experience levels in grades six through 12 and will offer instruction on topics including training, conditioning, goal-setting, nutrition and mental preparation.
Camp will begin each day at 9 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. Following a morning workout and core-building exercises, campers will eat lunch before moving into an instructional session and group activity for the remainder of the afternoon. Each camper is responsible for bringing his or her own lunch.
Camp activities also will cover a range of related topics and training methods including yoga, plyometrics, injury prevention and training psychology.
The cost per camper for the four-day session is $300. Deposits are non-refundable.
Likhite, who recently completed her eighth season as the head coach at Northwestern, was an All-American and SEC Student-Athlete of the Year during her collegiate running career at Mississippi State. Other members of the camp staff include Northwestern assistant coach Patricia Loughlin, who was a steeplechase All-American and member of a No. 1-ranked track and field program while competing at Duke, as well as volunteer assistant coach Jordan Horwitz, a three-sport All-America East Conference honoree at New Hampshire.
