Wildcats Shine at Chicagoland Championships

Chicagoland Championships -- Complete Results
CHICAGO -- Northwestern completed a successful showing at the Chicagoland Championships hosted by the University of Chicago this weekend, as three different Wildcats won distance events.
Freshman Nicole Oliver edged a competitive field in the 5K with a time of 17:39.44, which lowered her personal best by nearly 13 seconds. The Wildcats placed four more entrants in the top-10 of the 5K led by Lauren Neuschel's fifth-place effort of 18:02. Freshman Ann Powers and sophomores Moira Ryan and Janelle Li-A-Ping finished after Neuschel in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Junior Rachel Kaminski put together an outstanding day of racing, winning the 800-meter run by nearly six seconds in a time of 2:16.62 and nabbing second in the 1,500-meter, crossing in 4:36.27. Freshman Libby Kocha, meanwhile, took ninth place in the 1,500-meter in 4:50.7.
Northwestern's third individual victory came courtesy of sophomore Allegra Mayer in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mayer shaved 11 seconds off her seed time to finish in 11:09.5.
"We had a very solid day at the Chicagoland Championships," said head coach April Likhite. "It was exciting for our small distance group to walk away with three Chicagoland champions. Any time you see almost an entire group setting lifetime personal bests, you know that all the hard work and discipline is paying off. I'm looking forward to our meet next week and then giving our women a few weeks off to train consistently before the last spring meet at Wisconsin."
Coming up on Northwestern's spring schedule is another Chicagoland gathering at the DePaul Division I Invite on Saturday, April 16.
