EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern right-handed pitcher Ethan Bramschreiber (Glendora, Calif./St. Francis) has been selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week the conference office announced Monday.

He shares this week's honor with Ohio State's Tim Wetzel.

Bramschreiber earned the award based on his performance in the second game of a doubleheader with Penn State on Saturday. He came on in relief and hurled 4 2/3 innings, surrendering just one hit and two walks while retiring 10 of the first 11 batters he faced.

Bramschreiber racked up six strikeouts, setting a new career high, and now leads all Northwestern pitchers with a season ERA of 1.62.

Northwestern (9-19, 2-4 Big Ten) returns to action at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday as it travels to UIC.
