EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Maria Mosolova has been named the Big Ten Women's Player of the Week, the second consecutive week a Wildcat has been honored and the third time on the season. Mosolova clinched the `Cats victory over No. 24 Texas, upsetting 16th ranked Aeriel Ellis 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 singles to give NU their second consecutive victory over a top-25 opponent.
This is the seventh time Mosolova has claimed the award in her time at NU.
The win over Ellis was Mosolova's fifth over a ranked opponent this year. The senior, a three-time All-American with a 123-32 career record at Northwestern, now sports an unblemished 8-0 dual-match singles record on the season.
Mosolova and the ninth-ranked Wildcats have two weeks off before heading west to UC Santa Barbara on March 24, the last out-of-conference match before NU enters the thick of its Big Ten schedule.
