2011 Bryan Intercollegiate Results - Round One
BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. -- Following a month-long layoff from playing tournament golf, Northwestern returned to action Friday at the power-laden Bryan Intercollegiate, an annual tournament that features some of the nation's top women's golf programs.
After the first of three rounds, the Wildcats, who are ranked 39th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, are positioned in 12th place. Northwestern is just six strokes out of sixth place, however, which is currently held by sixth-ranked Duke, the top squad in the 17-team event. Just one stroke ahead of the Wildcats is Big Ten rival Ohio State (No. 31). Michigan State (No. 17) and South Carolina (No. 35) are tied for ninth place, two strokes in front of the `Cats.
Sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows), who has paced the Wildcats much of the year, is co-leading NU's contingent with a 4-over 76, which is good enough for 33rd overall. She fired an even-par 36 on the front nine, but then went 4-over on the back nine. Also shooting a 4-over 76 was senior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy). She went 2-over on both the front and back nine.
Junior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) are right behind Weaver, firing opening rounds of 77 and 78, respectively.
Senior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) fired a 9-over 81 to round out the Wildcats' first-day efforts.
Thirteen of the 17 teams in this year's Bryan field are ranked among the top-50 squads in the nation. Tennessee, ranked 14th in the latest Sagarin poll, is the round one leader after the Vols fired an even-par 288 on Friday.
The second round will be played Saturday with a third and final round slated for Sunday. Saturday's round begins at 7:30 a.m. CT and will be a shotgun start due to potential weather delays. Live scoring for the Bryan Intercollegiate is available at Golfstat.com.
