EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wrapping up its spring break training trip to California, No. 11 Northwestern picked up a 4-0 dual match win over UC Santa Barbara in a rain-shortened affair Thursday afternoon. No doubles matches were contested in the dual.

"I think we made the most of this week as a chance to get better and focus our energy on preparing for the Big Ten season," said head coach Claire Pollard. "We were a bit unlucky with the weather today but overall we're feeling rested and ready to go for Sunday."

Senior Maria Mosolova, who has risen through the rankings to assume the No. 13 position in the Campbell's/ITA College Tennis poll, led NU with her ninth win of the dual season, a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Natalia Lozano on the No. 1 singles line.

Freshman Belinda Niu collected a 6-1, 7-6 win at No. 2 over the Gauchos' Sofia Novak, while sophomore Linda Abu Mushrefova closed out a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jordan Dockendorf on the No. 4 courts.

Northwestern's fourth and final win came courtesy of Elena Chernyakova at No. 6, who knocked off Kiersten Meehan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

No doubles matches were played in the dual.

The match was the final nonconference tune-up for Northwestern before beginning its quest for a Big Ten championship, a journey that resumes Sunday when the Wildcats host Wisconsin at the Combe Tennis Center on Sunday. Start time is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT in a match that offers free admission for all fans.
