2011 Big Ten Tournament Bracket ![]()
PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- NNorthwestern squares off against ninth-seeded Minnesota in the opening round of the 2011 Big Ten Tournament Thursday (March 3) at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The contest will be the third match up of the day and is slated for approximately 6 p.m. CT. Every game of the event will be carried live on the Big Ten Network, with the exception of the title tilt on Sunday, March 6, which will air on ESPN 2.
The Wildcats, who finished the regular season with a record of 17-12, 6-10, earned the eighth seed in the event, their highest rank since the 1997 season. Minnesota and Northwestern split the regular-season series, with the Wildcats claiming a 62-55 victory last Sunday (Feb. 20) on Senior Day at Welsh-Ryan Arena and the Gophers pulling out a 63-58 win in Minneapolis on Jan. 27.
The two teams have been pitted against each other twice in Big Ten Tournament history, both times in the opening round. In 2004, eighth-seeded Minnesota defeated No. 11 Northwestern 68-47 and in 2007, the seventh-seeded Gophers came out on top once again, 60-43.
