WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Northwestern jumped out to a six-run lead after two innings and never looked back in cruising past Wake Forest 10-3 Saturday evening at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

Chris Lashmet collected three hits while driving in two and scoring a pair of runs to pace the Wildcat offense.

NU jumped on Wake Forest starting pitcher Brian Holmes right out of the gates. With two on and one out in the top of the first, Lashmet singled to plate Trevor Stevens from second base to get the Wildcats on the board. Chris Kontos followed with an RBI double before Jack Havey plated a pair with a two-out double to make it 4-0.

Northwestern kept things going in the second inning. Patrick Miller started the frame with a double before Stevens advanced him to third with a sacrifice bunt. The Wildcats kept their clutch two-out hitting going as consecutive doubles by Paul Snieder and Lashmet each plated runs to increase NU's lead to six.

Nate Jones came on to replace Holmes in the fourth inning, but Northwestern managed to add to its lead in the fifth. Lashmet collected his third hit in as many at-bats before Kontos followed with a single of his own to give the Wildcats two on with no one out. Geoff Rowan then laid down a sacrifice bunt and the throw to first by catcher Brett Armour was errant, allowing Lashmet to score from second.

Miller later added a run-scoring groundout as NU's advantage grew to eight. Niko Spezial relieved Jones with two outs in the fifth, but Stevens greeted him with a two-run double to make it 10-0 in the visitors' favor.

That was more than enough run support for sophomore Luke Farrell. The right-hander struck out six while allowing just one run over six innings of work to earn his second win in as many starts this season.

Freshman Jack Quigley worked the final three frames, notching four strikeouts, to earn his first collegiate save. NU owned the hit column 11-9 with eight different Wildcats collecting at least one hit in the contest.

Northwestern concludes its weekend road trip at 9 a.m. Central time Sunday as it squares off against Towson.
