Wildcats Venture to Wake Forest for Weekend Set

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern makes the trek to Winston-Salem, N.C., this weekend as plays a trio of games hosted by Wake Forest. The Wildcats open their set by squaring off against Georgetown at 9 a.m. Central time Friday.
NU takes on host Wake Forest at 5 p.m. Saturday before concluding play against Towson at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The Wildcats opened their 2011 season last weekend in Lubbock, Texas, posting a 1-3 mark. After dropping its season-opener to Utah Valley, 3-0, Northwestern bounced back with a 3-2 victory over Western Michigan. NU closed out the weekend by dropping consecutive decisions to host Texas Tech by scores of 6-1 and 8-6.
Trevor Stevens paced the 'Cats both at the bat and in the field. The infielder-turned-outfielder gunned down the potential tying run attempting to score to end the game in the narrow win over Western Michigan. The junior also led Northwestern with a .400 batting average (6-15) while hitting safely in all four games.
Chris Kontos was named to the Red Raider Classic all-tournament team after collecting five hits in 13 at-bats (.385), while Chris Lashmet contributed three doubles.
On the mound, Michael Jahns and Paul Snieder each hurled three shutout innings out of the bullpen. Luke Farrell hurled six solid innings, striking out a career-best eight batters, in the Wildcats' win.
Northwestern will be reunited with Wake Forest Athletic Director Ron Wellman who was the Wildcats' head coach for five seasons (1982-86), posting a 180-97-4 record, including a school-record 44 wins in 1984.
