Boilermaker Invite -- Complete Results

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's spring season got underway in full force Saturday as NU competed in Purdue's Boilermaker Invite while freshman Lexie Goldsmith ran for the USA in the 2011 NACAC Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Goldsmith completed the 4K course in 14:32 to place 12th overall, fourth among U.S. runners.

Goldsmith's effort helped the American contingent take silver with 30 team points, while Canada won gold with 15 points. It was the second consecutive year a Wildcat runner participated in the event.

"This was an outstanding opportunity for Lexie to run in an international meet against many of the best runners from her age group, and she really made the most of it," said Northwestern head coach April Likhite. "The experience is going to play a huge role in her growth as a collegiate runner."

Back stateside, Likhite's group at Purdue's Boilermaker Invite was led by sophomore and 2010 NCAA Championships qualifier Audrey Huth. Huth cruised past the field in the 1-mile run with a winning time of 4:54.44 while teammate Rachel Kaminski was third in the race by crossing in 5:04.83.

Huth also topped the field in the 3K with her run of 9:51.79, leading a group of six more Wildcats that placed No. 2-7 in the race. Freshman Nicole Oliver was second in 10:17 while sophomore Allegra Mayer was third in 10:18.

Kaminski also had a strong showing in the 1,000-meter race, placing second with an impressive time of 2:57.

"I thought Audrey ran very well Saturday, especially considering she was running on her own for most of both races," Likhite said. "Rachel has also been working hard this spring and it showed with some great runs on Saturday. We were all looking forward to seeing our hard work pay off and across the board, we walked away with probably one of our most successful indoor meets this program has had. It was a great race day for Northwestern Cross Country."
