EVANSTON, Ill.-- Amy Jaeschke has been named to the Naismith Midseason list, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. The 6-5 center is one of 30 women's basketball players across the country to make the elite list, which was trimmed from 50 to 30 midway through the year.
The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2010-11 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy, presented by AT&T, will be awarded on April 4, 2011 at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis.
Jaeschke joins two other Big Ten standouts in Iowa's Kachine Alexander and Ohio State's Jantel Lavender. The Wilmette, Ill., native, has been named to the preseason list the past two years, but this is the first time her name remained on the list after the midseason cut.
Jaeschke, who currently ranks sixth in the nation in scoring (22.2 ppg) and in blocks (3.6), has been garnering national attention all season long. Most recently, she was named to the State Farm Wade Trophy Midseason List, becoming the first Wildcat since Anucha Browne in 1985 to be honored by the Wade Trophy committee. She also was a Lowe's Senior Class Award Candidate and is a three-time All-Big Ten selection.
