NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern freshman Morgan Jones (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lake Mary) of the women's basketball team and junior Charlie Rimkus (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) of the men's swimming team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Jones earned her second straight Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after averaging 19.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Wildcats' wins over North Carolina State and Missouri. The freshman recorded the first double-double of her career against the Wolfpack, posting career highs in points (27) and in rebounds (11) while shooting 60 percent from the field. At Missouri, Jones added 11 points and four rebounds in 36 minutes of play, shooting 50 percent from deep.
Rimkus competed at USA Swimming's AT&T Nationals last week in Atlanta where he swam an Olympic Trial qualification time of 4:30.05 in the 400 IM to qualify for a second swim, ending up 18th overall in the event. He also took 29th place in the 200 fly after swimming the 'C' division final.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is sophomore Belinda Niu (Portland, Ore./Lincoln). Niu took the lead in coordinating all aspects of the food drive recently completed by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The food drive surpassed the previous record of 5,700 items by hauling in 6,100 items to donate to the Family Focus of Evanston.
