NU Announces Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern sophomores Kain Colter (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) of the football team and Nida Hamilton (Oak Brook, Ill./Hinsdale Central) of the women's tennis team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week.
Colter earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading Northwestern to a 28-25 upset of No. 9 Nebraska Saturday in Lincoln. Colter accumulated 57 yards both rushing and receiving while also throwing for 115 yards, 81 of which came on a fourth-quarter scoring strike to Jeremy Ebert that tied for the second-longest pass play in Northwestern history. Colter also scored on a 3-yard running play -- which ended with an acrobatic dive at the pylon -- and a 1-yard plunge into the end zone late in the fourth quarter that ultimately was the game-winner for the Wildcats. He now has accounted for nine touchdowns in six Big Ten games -- four rushing, four passing and one receiving.
Hamilton teamed with Linda Abu Mushrefova to reach the doubles semifinals of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in New York City. The duo knocked off teams from TCU and Boston College in the early rounds before falling in the semifinals to Southern Cal's Sabrina Santamaria and Kaitlyn Christian.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is senior Al Netter (Rohnert Park, Calif./Cardinal Newman) of the football team. Netter, a member of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, visited Lincolnwood Elementary School to read a short story to the students. Afterward, Netter was surprised with an appearance by head coach Pat Fitzgerald and thank-you cards from the students to show their appreciation for Netter's many contributions to the community.
