Park Ridge, Ill. -- Guard Morgan Jones earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades for her outstanding efforts last week, the Conference office announced today (Nov. 28). It is the second time in the past two weeks a Wildcat has earned the award, as Karly Roser garnered it last week.
Jones had an outstanding week, punctuated with a pair of free throws with 11 seconds remaining against LSU to give Northwestern a 45-44 victory at Baton Rouge. The freshman nearly recorded a double-double against the Lady Tigers, turning in an 11-point, nine rebound effort. She was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line with four assists and four steals in 36 minutes of action. The Wildcats' win at LSU was just the 12th time in 156 games (14 years) that an unranked team defeated the Lady Tigers at Maravich Arena.
Jones once again turned in a spectacular scoring performance Sunday, notching 17 point and seven rebounds against No. 20 DePaul. She also added four assists and a pair of steals in the 88-72 loss.
Next up for the Wildcats is a date with North Carolina State at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Evanston as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
