EVANSTON, Ill. -- After taking care of business at home last week with wins over Western Kentucky and Illinois State, Northwestern heads to the Bayou Tuesday for a 7 p.m. showdown against No. 20/21 Louisiana State. The Tigers are 2-1 on the young season, coming off a 65-62 overtime loss at Tulane Saturday evening, and play Arkansas Pine Bluff Monday evening at home before facing NU Tuesday. LSU is led by All-American senior post LaSondra Barrett, who is averaging 12.7 ppg.
Following Tuesday's game, Northwestern breaks for Thanksgiving, but returns to action Sunday, Nov. 27 at Welsh-Ryan Arena against No. 18 DePaul. The Wildcats and the Chicago Chapter of Autism Speaks are partnering once again to host the event, which raises awareness of autism spectrum disorders. Tip is set for 2 p.m. and will be carried live on the Big Ten Network.
Last time out...
Northwestern used a combination of 48 points in the paint and 14 transition points to down Illinois State, 69-62, Thursday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats received outstanding double-figure performances from Dannielle Diamant, Kendall Hackney, Brittany Orban and Morgan Jones while freshman Karly Roser dished out a Big Ten-high 13 assists.

LSU Tigers
Location: Baton Rouge, La.
Last meeting: November 14, 2010,Northwestern, 71-62
Series History: Northwestern leads, 2-1
Northwestern has won the last two out of three meetings between these two teams, coming up with a 71-62 win last year at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Prior to that, the last time the two teams clashed was on March 22, 1996 in the WNIT Tournament. Teh Wildcats edged out a 79-75 victory to advance to the title game of the event. Northwestern fell to Arizona, 79-63, in the championship.
All-Around Roser
Through three games, freshman Karly Roser has been an assist machine, averaging 10.3 per outing, tops in the Big Ten. Last time out against Illinois State, Roser set a Big Ten single-game high with 13 helpers. Earlier in the week versus Western Kentucky, the Canadian posted the first double-double of her career, a 12-point, 10-assist effort complemented by seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Oddly enough, the guard is tied for second on the team in blocks, with four on the year.
Hackney Rising to the Occasion
Junior Kendall Hackney has asserted herself from the get-go, leading the team in scoring in and coming in second in rebounding. The All-Big Ten selection appears atop several Conference statistical categories, including scoring (8th; 16.3 ppg) and blocked shots (9th; 1.3). Hackney is sixth in the League in three-point field goals made, averaging 2.3 per outing.
Spreading The Love
Unlike seasons past when Northwestern's offense centered around one player, this year is shaping up to be one of a more democratic nature. Five of NU's four starters are averaging double digits, led by junior Kendall Hackney with 16.3 ppg. Fellow classmate Dannielle Diamant has met expectations, nearly averaging a double double with 12.7 ppg and 8.3 rpg. Diamant converted a trio of clutch three-point plays against Illinois State to push NU to victory. Two freshmen, Morgan Jones and Karly Roser, have stepped up in big ways, earning starting slots and averaging 28.0 and 33.7 minutes per game, respectively.
May I Assist You?
A trademark of Joe McKeown's teams have been their ability to move the ball and rack up assists. This year is no different, as the Wildcats are averaging 20.7 assists per outing, led by Karly Roser with 10.3 a game
