LOS ANGELES -- Members of Northwestern's defending Big Ten tournament champion women's tennis team continued the fall circuit at the ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Los Angeles, Calif. Thursday.

Kate Turvy (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) continued her successful run through the singles draw qualifying singles draw with a win over North Carolina's Lauren McHale on Wednesday. The first set was tight with the Wildcat winning 7-6 (2), but then Turvy whitewashed McHale in the second set, 6-0, to advance to the main draw.

In the main draw Thursday, Turvy matched up with Ole Miss' Kristi Boxx. Northwestern's junior was unable to knock off Boxx, falling in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

In the qualifying back draw of the singles competition, Turvy's teammate, Brittany Wowchuk (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Oakville Trafalgar) posted a won over Erin Vierra of Virginia. Wowchuk was victorious over 7-5, 6-1. The junior will next face Anais Dallara of Long Beach State.

The 'Cats also have an entry in the main doubles draw in the form of Linda Abu Mushrefova (Bradenton, Fla./Pendleton) and Nida Hamilton (Oak Brook, Ill./Hinsdale Central). Mushrefova and Hamilton are currently tabbed No. 3 in the Campbell's/ITA preseason rankings. The duo, seeded second in the field, received a first-round bye and will play next on Friday.
