Precin Wrestles to Fifth at Dmitri Korkin Memorial in Russia

YAKUTSK, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia -- Northwestern volunteer assistant coach and three-time NCAA All-American Brandon Precin wrestled at the Dmitri Korkin Memorial in Russia over the weekend. Precin placed fifth in the 55 kg/121 lbs. weight class after finishing with a 2-2 record.
Precin opened up with a 1-0, 1-3, 1-0 victory over Aleksandr Koriakin of Russia but was tripped up in the second round 1-0, 1-3, 0-3 against Damdinbazar Sohtbaatar of Mongolia.
Precin bounced back in his third match, defeating Ukraine's Lubomir Litvinchuck 0-1, 1-0, 1-0 but lost to Gabit Tolepbay of Kazakhstan, 1-1, 0-2, 0-1 in the bronze-medal match.
This was the fourth international wrestling tournament held in memory of the honored coach Dmitry Korkin. Teams that were in the tournament included Ukraine, Turkey, United States, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Mongolia, Kyrgystan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Greece and Russia (Dagestan, Buriatya, Moskow, Krasnoyarsk and Yakutia).
The overseas competition was the first for Precin, who in 2010 placed third at the United States Senior World Team Trials and earlier this year claimed a University Nationals 55 kg championship. Precin graduated in 2011 ranked third all-time in career wins at Northwestern with a record of 138-31 and is one of only five three-time All-Americans in NU wrestling history.
The Northwestern wrestling season is right around the corner with the team's first match of the season on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Wildcats host Stanford in the season-opener at Marist High School in Chicago.
