EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern redshirt freshman Katie Dutchman (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) of the volleyball team and freshman Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J./Bishop Eustace) of the men's soccer team have been named NU's Hilton Garden Inn Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Dutchman was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive seven-day span after she notched 15 total blocks in two matches for the Wildcats. Dutchman was dominant at the net against then-No. 1 Illinois at home on Wednesday and at Iowa on Saturday. The Californian accumulated nine total blocks against the Illini to lead all players in the match. Against the Hawkeyes, Dutchman accounted for six total blocks, including a single solo effort to score match point for the 'Cats.
Miller saved three shots in Northwestern's 1-0 victory over Wisconsin Sunday, posting the eighth shutout of his freshman season and his third in a row. Miller was recognized as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, his second honor of the season.
This week's Community Outreach Athlete of the Week is freshman Tre Demps (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan). Demps and other members of the men's basketball team spoke to a group of 80 eighth graders during their tour of the NU athletic facilities. The group toured the Stadium Club, Welsh-Ryan Arena and Anderson Hall.
