EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern looks to resume its winning ways when it travels downstate for a 2 p.m. battle with Illinois Sunday at Assembly Hall. NU is coming off its first home loss of the season, a 80-68, shortcoming to Penn State Thursday evening. Sunday's affair can be heard on WNUR, 89.3 FM.
'Cats Nips
Toeing the Line
Northwestern ranks third in the Big Ten in free-throw percentage (75.4 percent) but perhaps its ability to execute when the game is on the line is more impressive. Beth Marshall is especially accurate in the final minute, connecting on 14-of-16 attempts during that time. As a team, Northwestern is 37-of-42 from the line in the final 1:08 this season.
Putting the Time In
Three Wildcats appear in the top 10 in minutes played this year--the most of any League squad. Senior Beth Marshall leads the Big Ten with 36.6 mpg, while fellow classmate Amy Jaeschke is averaging 35.4mpg and Brittany Orban is logging 33.8 minutes.
'Cats Crank It Up
As of Friday, Northwestern is one of just five Big Ten schools to post double-digit wins on the season. The Wildcats have 12, while Penn State and Iowa have 13 and Michigan State boasts a league-best 14. Ohio State just reached double-figures in its victory over Indiana Thursday.
