EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern women's soccer coach Stephanie Foster has announced the hire of Bayard Elfvin as an assistant coach. Elfvin, most recently a volunteer assistant coach with the DePaul women's soccer program, brings a wealth of professional experience to the Wildcat family.

"We are really excited to have Bayard join our staff," said Northwestern Head Coach Stephanie Foster. "He has an awesome pedigree and has worked with some of the best coaches in the country. Bayard brings great passion for our sport, for Northwestern, and for winning."

"I am very excited at the opportunity to join such a wonderful staff, athletic department and academic institution," Elfvin said. "We have very high expectations about the future of Northwestern women's soccer and I look forward to helping to build a championship program."

Over the course of a six-year professional goalkeeping career, Elfvin logged time in both outdoor and indoor soccer, including a 2008 stint with the New York Red Bulls of MLS. He remains active as a goalkeeper for the U.S. Beach Soccer National Team, where he represented the United States at the 2006 and 2007 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups in Brazil. Elfvin also played for the Chicago Storm of the indoor Xtreme Soccer League in 2009.

A 2003 graduate of Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, Elfvin was a four-year starter for the Eagles and led them to the school's first NCAA Division II Tournament berth in 2001.

"Bayard will take the reigns with our goalkeeping position and have a huge hand in every aspect of our program," Foster said. "We expect him to make big contributions specifically with our competitive success and recruiting."

Elfvin spent one season as an assistant men's soccer coach at Virginia Wesleyan College and also volunteered with the University of Chicago men's program. He has additional experience as a goalkeeping director and coach at several soccer clubs across the country, including the Glenview Soccer Club.
