EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern students, Evanston residents and Wildcat fans from near and far gathered Thursday evening for a pep rally in anticipation of NU's Saturday football game against Central Michigan, which is Evanston Day at Ryan Field. The event was held under ominous skies and high winds outside the Evanston Rotary International Building on Sherman Ave.
The spirited program featured ongoing performances by the Evanston Township High School and Northwestern bands, dance teams and cheerleaders. NU All-American and Evanston resident Mike Adamle emceed the event and ushered a string of speakers to the podium, including Evanston Mayor Liz Tisdahl, Northwestern President Morton Schapiro, NU's Director of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips and Head Football Coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Saturday's festivities begin two hours before kickoff at Wildcat Alley (9 a.m.), located adjacent to Ryan Field. The family-fun zone will offer a range of activities, including face painting, games, appearances by the marching band, drinks, food and much more. The City of Evanston also will have a presence in the area, including the new fire truck, recently purchased by Northwestern for the City.
