DURHAM, N.C. -- On the second day of play at the Duke Fab Four Invite, Northwestern sent two doubles teams to the consolation finals of their respective flights and won two singles matches. The four Wildcats in the tournament field will complete their season-opening tournament Sunday at the Cary Tennis Center.

Saturday's action began with the completion of the doubles bracket where Northwestern finished 2-2 on the afternoon. The tandem of Brittany Wowchuk and Belinda Niu opened with an easy 8-3 win in Flight B against North Carolina's Zoe De Bruycker and Jocelyn Ffriend. That win landed them in the consolation final where they fell 8-5 to the Texas pairing of Krista Damico and Aeriel Ellis.

The story was similar in Flight C where senior Maria Mosolova and freshman Nida Hamilton notched an 8-6 win over Duke's Clayton and Ellah Nze to set up a consolation final match against Texas' Maggie Mello and Caroline Larsson. Mosolova and Hamilton eventually came up short, losing 8-6 to conclude NU's doubles play for the opening weekend.

Wowchuk and Niu accounted for Northwestern's two singles victories Saturday, with Wowchuk bouncing back from a loss in the Flight B consolation draw to defeat North Carolina's Jennifer Stone of Purdue, 6-0, 6-1. Niu, meanwhile, opened her day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Duke freshman Hanna Mar before losing in the Flight C semifinals, 6-3, 6-3, to Mississippi's Kristi Boxx.

Updated brackets from Saturday's action at the Duke Fab Four Invite are available in PDF format at the top of the page. Revisit NUsports.com on Sunday for complete final singles results.
