ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Northwestern posted a 45-over 613 through the opening two rounds of the Woverine Invitational, entering Sunday's final round in sole possession of fifth-place and well within striking distance of a handful of teams. Sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) remains in the hunt for the individual title as well, sitting tied for fifth after shooting a 7-over 149 through the opening 36 holes.

Battling rain showers and a 16-team field, Northwestern opened up the opening tournament of the 2010-11 season in style, posting a 16-over 300 and finding itself in second place after the first 18 holes. But as conditions on the course got more difficult, the Wildcats posted a 39-over 313 in round two and find themselves in the middle of a six-team log jam in which nine shots separate the second and seventh-place team.

Weaver opened up the tournament with a four-over 75 in round one, then shaved a stroke off that total to finish round two with a three-over 74 and in a three-way tie for fifth, just three strokes back of first-place Min Yean Tan of Michigan.

Freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) has been impressive in her collegiate debut, shooting a nine-over 151, including a team-best two-over 73 in round one. She is tied for 12th and trails Weaver by just two strokes heading into Sunday's final round.

Junior Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) sits third on the Wildcat scorecard with a 14-over 156 after shooting a pair of 78's on the day. She holds a four shot lead on sister Rebecca Lederhausen's (Hindsdale, Ill./Central) 18-over 160, with senior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) rounding out the Northwestern scorecard with a 19-over 161.

Northwestern enters Sunday's final 18 holes right in the midst of the six-team logjam, trailing second-place Augusta State (40-over 608) by five strokes and third-place Iowa State (42-over 610) by three. The Wildcats are just a shot back of the host Wolverines (44-over 612) for fourth, and will look to hold off sixth-place Indiana (46-over 614) and seventh-place Western Michigan (49-over 617). Florida International sits comfortably in first-place, shooting a 25-over 593 and giving the Golden Panthers a 20-shot edge over the Jaguars.

Sunday's final round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring of the Wolverine Invitational is available at Golfstat.com.
