2010-11 Northwestern Wrestling Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- With the announcement of Northwestern's 2010-11 wrestling schedule Wednesday, Chicagoland wrestling fans have been assured arguably the most exciting home schedule for the 'Cats in recent memory. In addition to the 48th annual Midlands Championships and home dates against Big Ten powers Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin, NU also will host the 2010 Big Ten Championships March 5-6.

On top of its action-packed home slate, Northwestern and first-year head coach Drew Pariano are also set for an exciting start to the season on the road, opening the year with an outdoor dual match at Stanford on Nov. 7.

"There is so much for our team and our fans to look forward to in the 2010-11 season," Pariano said. "First and foremost is the caliber of our lineup, led by two-time All-American Brandon Precin and NCAA qualifier Andrew Nadhir as well as our third captain Robert Joyce. Combining their experience and leadership with our other returners and the No. 2 recruiting class in the country is really the ideal situation for our program.

"Beyond that, we are very excited about the schedule we've been able to assemble, highlighted by Midlands and the Big Ten Championships," Pariano continued. "We're also proud to take part in an outdoor dual against a quality program in Stanford, which will be a great event to continue promoting our sport on the West coast."

Following that season-opening road trip to California, the Wildcats return to Evanston where they will host the NU Duals for the second-straight year. Northwestern also will host dual matches against Northern Illinois, Cleveland State and Eastern Michigan before getting underway with Big Ten dual competition at Indiana on Dec. 15.

During the holiday season, Welsh-Ryan Arena will once again be the site of one of the nation's top amateur wrestling tournaments, the 48th annual Midlands Championships. As it has over the last five years, the list of elite national programs competing at the Midlands continues to grow with Oklahoma and future Big Ten member Nebraska scheduled to join the fold in 2010.

Northwestern will endure one final quad-dual in Pittsburgh on Jan. 8 before diving headfirst into the remainder of its conference schedule, kicking things off against rival Illinois on Friday, Jan. 14, in Welsh-Ryan Arena.

A road swing to face Michigan and Michigan State sets the Wildcats up for a three-match homestand that begins with two-time defending NCAA team champion Iowa on Jan. 28. The 'Cats meet Purdue on Feb. 4 before celebrating Senior Night the following Friday, Feb. 11, against Wisconsin.

On March 5-6, Northwestern welcomes the rest of the conference to Evanston for the annual Big Ten Championships. NU's Brandon Precin and 2009 Big Ten finalist Jason Welch each will be among those on the Wildcat roster in search of their first conference championship.

This year's NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 17-19 in the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.
